Privacy Policy

Plate (“we”, “us”) respects your privacy. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why we collect it, who it is shared with, and how you can remove it. We collect the minimum needed to run the app.

Information we collect

• Account information — your email address and display name, when you sign in with Google or create an email/password account.
• Profile information you enter — gender, age, height, weight, activity level and your goal. Used to calculate your calorie and macro targets.
• Activity you log — food entries, water, weight and workouts.
• Step counts — read from your device only after you grant permission (see “Health data” below).
• Camera — used only while you scan a food barcode. The scan happens on your device; no photos or video are stored or sent to us.
• Reports you send — if you report an AI answer or plan, we receive the text you reported, the reason you chose, any note you add, and your account email so we can follow up.

Health data

Plate reads your daily step count from one of two sources, whichever your device supports, and only after you explicitly allow it:

• Health Connect — we request read-only access to Steps and nothing else. We never write data to Health Connect and never request any other health data type.
• Your device’s built-in step counter — used when Health Connect is unavailable, via Android’s activity-recognition permission.

Step data is used solely to display your daily activity in the app and to adjust your calorie allowance. Step and health data are stored on your device and are not uploaded to our servers, not sold, and not shared with advertisers or any third party. You can revoke access at any time in Health Connect or Android Settings, and Plate will simply stop showing steps.

AI features

When you use an AI feature (food logging, coach, gym trainer, nutritionist, diet or workout plans), the text you provide plus non-identifying context such as your calorie goal, age, height, weight and activity level is sent to Google’s Gemini API to generate a response. Your name, email address and account identifiers are not sent. Requests travel through our Google Cloud Functions and are not used to train models.

Every AI answer and plan has a Report option. Reports are stored securely and reviewed by us to make the AI safer and more accurate (see “Data retention” below).

Storage and security

Account and subscription information is stored using Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore) with encryption in transit. Your logged food, weight and step history are stored locally on your device and are scoped to your account, so multiple accounts on one phone never see each other’s data.

If we give you complimentary Premium, we keep your email address on a server-side list so the app can apply it.

Analytics

Plate shows no ads of any kind. We record a small number of product events — when a daily free limit is reached, when the subscription screen is opened, and when a subscription starts — using Google Firebase Analytics. These tell us whether the free tier works. They never include your food entries, weight, steps, health data, or the content of any AI conversation.

Firebase Analytics uses a random app-instance ID, not linked to your name or email, to count users and measure how the app is used. Plate shows no ads, and from version 1.0.3 it does not collect your device’s advertising ID or use Android’s advertising features.

Sharing

• We do not sell your personal or health data.
• We share prompt text with Google’s Gemini API purely to produce AI responses.
• We verify subscription purchases with Google Play.
• We share an app-instance analytics identifier with Google as described above — never your health data.

Payments

Plate Premium is billed through Google Play. We never see or store your payment details; Google Play handles the transaction and we only receive a confirmation that a subscription is active.

Data retention

• Account, subscription and usage records on our servers are kept while your account exists and deleted when you delete it.
• Generated diet and workout plans are kept until you build a new plan or delete your account.
• AI requests are not stored by us once the answer is returned. Food descriptions may be cached, with no link to you, so the same food is answered faster for everyone.
• Reports you send about AI answers are kept for up to 12 months to review and improve the AI, and deleted with your account.
• Food, weight and step history stays on your device until you delete it, delete your account, or uninstall the app.
• Analytics data is kept by Google Firebase for a limited period (2 to 14 months) and then deleted automatically.

Your choices and data deletion

• Delete your account — open Plate → Settings → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account and its data.
• Revoke Health Connect or activity permission at any time in your device settings.
• Request deletion by email using the address below, and we will action it within 30 days.

Children

Plate is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we will update this page and revise the date above.
